Joshua's 9th Birthday!

This is the first year Joshua anticipated his birthday!
He was excited for the calendar to change from September to October.
We counted down starting October 1st.
Throughout the days I could hear him whispering to himself-"7 days until my birthday.", etc.
He really wanted to bring Halloween cupcakes to share with his class and he wanted them to sing Happy Birthday to him.
Again another first.
So I ordered white cupcakes with orange frosting, chocolate sprinkles, and halloween rings on top.
The first thing he said when he walked in from school was "I have seven cupcakes left.  It was Cal's birthday too and my class sang Happy Birthday to me."
He was so happy, but went off to his normal routine like any other normal day.
Apparently he loved the cupcakes because he took one of the leftovers and stuffed the whole thing in his mouth.
He was super happy when I told him instead of doing homework (he hates homework) he was going to the store with Dad to buy a DVD for his birthday.
"Yes!" he whispered under his breath.
He bought Gnomeo and Juliet and watched it on the lap top until dinner.
We ate pita pizza, ravioli, and strawberries.
We started talking about when everyone was born.
"Why are you talking about being born?"
"Because that is why we celebrate birthdays Josh."
Gma and Gpa Cardon came over.
He opened his presents, which he likes doing, but like a young toddler who cares more about the paper than the gift, he went back to running back and forth and playing with rattle.
We all stayed calm and cool, so that he would feel calm.
He did get a scooter, helmet, and some nice cards from his sisters .
Oh and Kate made him a homemade "rattle"  just like Joshua's favorite toy.
Joshua wanted to put the candles on the cake and light them, but first he had to count all of the candles in the box.
While lighting the candles he burned himself (not serious) and needed to take a sad break after blowing out the candles.
He then ate his chocolate cake and mint ice cream and went back to stimming with his red "rattle" (it's a plastic snake)
When I tucked him in bed I showed him a picture of him when he was a newborn.
I thought he would like to see it because he is really into talking about and watching newborn babies ever since his cousin Deborah was born.
When he saw a newborn picture of Kate, he was much more interested in it because-
"Look!" Kate looks like Deborah"
As always he went to bed with a smile on his face.
He still doesn't completely understand birthdays or the whole fuss, but he had a very
Happy Day!
And I am just so happy this little/big guy is in our family!
