Summer's Adventure Race

Summer, Sara Ferrin, Kate Madsen
Summer and her two best friends, Sara and Kate have been training this last month to participate in the Gilmore Adventure Race in the lovely mountains of Prescott, AZ.
When Summer first told me about the 12 mile race, I immediately said-
"Go for it!"
Then I started reading about what it entailed-
Running, Mountain Biking, Surprise Challenges, and Orienteering (What's that?!).
Plus you didn't find out about the race trail or the exact distances until 2 days before race day.
I myself was overwhelmed, but Sara had done the race last year and we told Summer she could participate as long as she trained and learned how to orienteer.
(I didn't want her lost in the mountains.)
Thanks to Sara's parents who were also participating in the race, they trained the girls and taught them everything they needed to know.
Kate and Jacob ditching school
We decided to ditch school, drive the 2 hours to camp in the cool mountains, and cheer Summer on.
(Taylor spent a fun weekend with Gma and Gpa Cardon so he could attend his best bud Evan's birthday party.)
We were so excited to go camping since it had been like 2 years.
We had the best time!!!!
Saturday was spent cheering on Summer.
The Start- "Which direction do we need to go?"
The first leg of the race-TREKKING and finding the first 2 checkpoints

BIKING!!!!
The girls completed the Trekking, found the first 2 check points, finished 2 surprise challenges, and put their orienteering skills to work and figured out where they were going to bike to.
Jacob, Kate, and Joshua the patient cheerleaders.
THE WALL
After biking in the mountains for a few hours (yes I was getting worried), the girls had to complete the final challenge-
The 12 Foot Wall!!!!!!
They all had to get over it before they could run (walk) thought the finish line.

They did AWESOME!
It was a six hour race.
They were only 1 of 2 all girls teams in the teen division and they were one of the few teen teams who actually completed the race and found all the check points.
We were so proud of them!!!
Go Team SUPER X!!!!!
(X for the Female Chromosome-  Smart, Beautiful, and Tough!!!!!)
It was an awesome weekend!!!
Summer and her friends had a wonderful experience and learned a lot of new skills.
I was so proud of how hard they worked and all that they accomplished.
Go Super X!!!!!!
