Jacob's 11th Birthday

Today was Jacob's 11th birthday!
He's been excited and counting down the days.
This morning he requested chocolate chip pancakes and scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Unfortunately my sweet boy woke up with a headache.
After a little medication and a short nap, by 9:30 am he was feeling well enough to go to school and share his Oreos with all of his classmates and teachers.
For his party Jacob chose to do one of his favorite things-
Cookout in the backyard.

Grandma and Grandpa Cardon joined us for hot dogs and smores.
Veggie chips, carrots, apples, salad, and Sprite were also part of the menu.
Jacob lit the fire and showed us all how it was done.
Even with smores we still had to have some kind of cake to sing "Happy Birthday".
Instead of a cake Jacob wanted a giant sugar cookie with frosting and sprinkles.
We all got quite the sugar rush from Jacob's birthday treats.
After eating all that yummy food and chit chatting by the fire,
Jacob was ready to open his gifts.
Grandma and Grandpa Maxfield sent Jacob a package in the mail filled with clothes, fun bugs, and books.
Grandma and Grandpa Cardon gave Jacob a sweet card and some money to spend on whatever he wanted. (Jacob chose to save most of it.  So responsible!)
Kate gave him an assortment of favorite things and a card for each one, like 2 of her favorite rocks and a lucky pencil.
Mom and Dad gave Jacob a gift certificate to go rock shopping (he loves rocks!)
Brandon Mull's new book and a date to go with mom to the book signing at Barnes and Nobles.
And a quill.

Here is Jacob trying it out.
"Writing is so much more fun when you can use a quill.  I wish we could use these at school."
I think some of my children could have been born in another century and fit in just fine.
Over all it was a happy day.
Jacob ended the day snuggled in his bed, flashlight in hand , as he delved into his new book- "Beyonders- Seeds of Rebellion".
I hope he had magical dreams on his special day!
