Joshua's day at the zoo with dad-IDON"T WANT A SNOW CONE DAD!

Here was another first time moment for Joshua.
Last week he got to chose where he wanted to go for his one on one time.
Andy-"Josh where do you want to go for you alone time, ice cream, bookstore, zoo, park...?"
Joshua"The zoo."
A-"Do you want mom or dad to take you?"
J-"Dad."
A-"Okay I'll take you on Saturday"
J-"Do we go for a boat ride?"
Christin-"We don't have a boat Joshua, but that would be fun?"
J-"Can we go for a boat ride at the zoo?"
C-"That's right.  There are paddle boats at the zoo."
A-"I'll take you on a boat ride Josh at the zoo."

Joshua never asks to do anything.
We were so excited that he came up with his own idea and told us about it
Big first.
So what if his zoo outing was going to cost a fortune.
This was like telling us what he wanted for his birthday, so we counted as a gift.

2nd big first.
He couldn't stop talking about going to the zoo.
All week long.
"Is dad going to take me to the zoo on Saturday?"
"Yes Joshua."
"Are we going to go on a boat ride?"
"Yes Joshua."
Multiple times a day.  All week long.
He was so excited.
We were so excited that he was excited.

Saturday came.
"First get up.  Eat breakfast.  Go to Jacob's basketball game.  Go to the zoo.  Go on a boat ride."
That was his agenda for the day.

No pictures of the zoo.
Andy doesn't do that, but here are the highlights.
Joshua loved the boat ride.
He pretended he was a pirate and quoted Muppet Treasure Island while paddling.
His favorite animals were the otters.
He kept saying over and over.  "Are they swimming?"
He loved watching them.

Snack time.
A-"Joshua do you want a soda?"
J-"I want a water bottle." (I don't know where he learned that from?)
They walk by the snow cones.
It being a warm day the line is huge.
A-"Do you want a snowcone?"
J-"I DON'T WANT A SNOWCONE DAD!"
Every kid in line turns around with mouths hanging open.
What kid doesn't want a snowcone?
Every parent in line even turns around thinking- There are kids that really turn down treats?
Andy said it was a pretty funny sight.
However,Joshua was just waiting for the right treat.
Andy finally talked him into an ice cream bar.
A boy after my own heart.
Joshua had such a great time and it was fun to see him really anticipate something for over a long period of time.
I hope it is just the first of many times.
