Every week day morning it is the same.
My children are very happy in the mornings and ready to start the day (most of them).
The list of what to do is branded in their brains.
The execution is the challenge.
It is sometimes hard to focus on each task.
There is lots of wandering, chit-chatting, laughing, and movie dialogue surrounding me.
What mother doesn't want to heart the joyful voices of her children?
However, we have to focus on the task at hand.
And most tasks have a time limit-like the school bell.
.
So these are some of the phrases that come out of my mouth every morning to help them reach their goal of getting to school before the bell rings.
"FOCUS"
"You left your cup at the table."
"Where are you going?"
"What are you doing?"
"You wore that shirt yesterday."
"Did you take the garbage/recycle out?"
"FOCUS"
I got tired of telling Taylor and Jacob- "No more talking."
Because when they started talking all work came to a halt.
That was impossible for them, so instead I've been saying,
"Talk while you work."
If I can do it. Then they certainly can, right?
I haven't seen too many results from this attempted teaching moment.
Is it my mothering or just a boy thing?
This morning Taylor answered my question.
Me-"Taylor and Jacob. Talk while you are making your lunch."
Taylor turns around and looks at me.
"Girls are just better at that."
Questioned answered.

ReplyDeleteOh Taylor...he cracks me up! He IS a smart boy and will tell it like it is. I love it!
ReplyDeleteSo funny!!! I can even hear your happy sing-song voice. Always trying to be patient and positive. Those are the same phrases at my house, but you forgot,
ReplyDelete"did you brush your teeth?
"Yeah"
"I'm going to check your toothbrush"
"Oh, wait, I think I forgot"
That's always one of my favorite exchanges.
Miss you guys!
At least he realized this while he is still young.
